Bury St Edmunds Record
Office holds an amazing range of information about the history of
Suffolk and its people.

The
material in our care relates mainly to Suffolk and helps to bring the
county's past to life. Some of the records go back to the 12th century,
but not everything is old. You’ll also find items from recent times
relating to individuals and a wide range of organisations, such as the
County Council, local authorities, churches, chapels, estates, schools,
hospitals, businesses, families, clubs and societies. We preserve them
all - from parchments to CD ROMs – and keep them safe for when you want
to see them.
Whatever you want to discover about Suffolk, our experienced and
knowledgeable staff will be able to get you under way and help you
further your research. |
|
Our most popular collections include parish records to help you trace
your family history, estate records from large country estates such as Ickworth or Euston so you can find out about the rich and their social
life, or the poor who worked for them. We also hold the Suffolk Regiment
collection so you can research local Army ancestors. |
 |
We hold talks, lectures and other activities on a regular basis covering
a wide variety of family and local history topics. We also sell copies
of prints from our collections to give you a permanent reminder of your
visit.
