THE NATIONAL TRUST AT ICKWORTH HOUSE, PARKS & GARDENS
Ickworth – What’s On 2009
Discover the eccentric world of the Hervey family. Whether you step
inside the house to marvel at the central rotunda and curving corridors;
or explore the idyllic pleasure grounds surrounding this unique
building, you’ll never find a day out quite like it!
In 1795, the 4th Earl of Bristol created this outlandish and unique
house. Full of internationally important art, Georgian silver and
Regency furniture, a visit will transport you back to the days of style
extravagance and excess.
Colourful characters
Ickworth was built for the Herveys; a colourful and much talked about
18th century dynasty. Built to house the collections gathered on
subsequent European travels and Grand Tours, the Rotunda is like an
elaborate display case. Paintings by Titian, Gainsborough and Velasquez
adorn the walls, while ancient statues act as milestones in your journey
with the Herveys through the centuries.
Go wild at Ickworth
The formal and informal gardens and park at Ickworth are a real breath
of fresh air. The Italianate gardens reflect the style and grandeur of
the Rotunda and also play host to the National Collection of Box
hedging. Tracker packs, trim trails, cycle paths and way-marked walks
all help you make the most of the acres of space on offer. While you are
out and about try to keep an eye out for the Georgian summerhouse,
colourful drifts of spring flowers and the fairy lake!

The event of the year!
Ickworth has an events programme right through the year, so whatever you
feel like doing there is sure to be something for you, your friends and
your family. From outdoor theatre to workshops, craft demonstrations and
art exhibitions, costumed days where the estate comes to life with
characters from its past, family fun days, nature walks and activities,
gardening tips and pudding lunches – you’ll be spoilt for choice.
