Welcome to Moyses Hall, Bury St Edmunds
A medieval building with local history and collections in the
heart of Bury St Edmunds.
For almost a thousand years Moyse’s Hall has looked out over
the market place of Bury St Edmunds. It has seen many changes since it was built
in 1180 and provides an excellent setting in which to trace the unfolding story
of the town.
Including changes from medieval times through to the present
day there are also items connected with the struggle for law and
order, dating
from the days when Moyse’s Hall was a gaol and police station. Follow different
themes of timekeeping history alongside paintings which capture individual human
faces at a moment in time. Explore fashion, trade and more through changing
collections. Learn about nearly 300 years of the Suffolk Regiment from 1685
until it was amalgamated into the Royal Anglians in 1959 and discover exhibits
from their fighting past including the Seven Years War, the Boyne, World Wars
One and Two.
Workshops, guided tours, lectures and hands-on activities make up a varied
programme of events with something to suit everyone. Fully accessible with
toilets and baby changing facilities. Groups welcome.
