My Favourite Places... Tracey Elliot

Tracey works at Bury St Edmunds Tourist Information Centre, she shares with us why she loves Bury St Edmunds, and her favourite places to go

Walking

My favourite place is the Abbey Gardens. They are peaceful, relaxing and an absolute pleasure to visit all year round. I love strolling around or just sitting and taking in the Abbey Ruins and beautifully kept flower beds or simply watching the squirrels.

Eating

Bury St Edmunds has an amazing selection of restaurants from fine dining to gastro pubs. My absolute favourite place to eat is Golden City Chinese Restaurant in Risbygate Street. The Golden City offers an eat as much as you want menu with table service. Their set price menu offers freshly cooked food to order. Perfect for gathering with friends & family and a great opportunity to try something you may not have normally ordered. My favourite starter is their chicken & sweetcorn soup!

Shopping

I’m really fortunate that my favourite place to shop is Bury St Edmunds and it’s only a 10-minute walk from my home. I feel so lucky to have such a great mix of independent shops and High Street stores on my doorstep.

We also have a really great market on Wednesday and Saturdays. I love the fact that I am so familiar with all the shops and stalls, my only problem is struggling to carry my shopping home.

Nowton Park is my favourite place to spend a lazy Sunday morning or afternoon. The park consists of almost 200 acres of grounds which are very well maintained. The park has a play area, maze, open space for ball games and picnics, plus a café.  Spring is my favourite time when the avenue of daffodils are in flower.

Entertainment

For entertainment, The Apex is an award-winning venue for live acts - modern, spacious and with great acoustics.  The venue offers a great selection from classical to pop music, comedy and dance performances. Upstairs there is a bar/lounge area with an Art Gallery and a great place to have a wander.
