Winter is the ideal season to enjoy a weekend break in Bury St Edmunds; and it's perfect for couples too - with boutique hotels, award-winning restaurants, great shopping, country pubs with roaring fires and miles of countryside to explore.

The Windmill 

Built in 1891 The Windmill is the perfect contemporary country hideaway. Take in the uninterrupted panoramic views over a glass of bubbly in the top floor living space before relaxing on the inviting and sumptuously soft oversized handmade velvet sofas, piled high with plump cushions, fluffy blankets and cosy throws.

Wrap up warm and head onto the external balcony to look at the starry Suffolk skies before enjoying a soak in the free-standing oversized bath and making use of the fluffy dressing gowns and slip into one of the luxurious bedrooms with handmade superking size beds.  

The accommodation is self-catering so there's a well-equipped kitchen complete with Nespresso coffee machine, so after you've started your day with the coffee of your choice, you can head out and explore the surrounding Suffolk countryside.

The Northgate

The Northgate is a stylish, boutique hotel located just a few minutes walk from Bury St Edmund's historic centre. The Angel Hotel

Situated on Bury St Edmunds historic Angel Hill, The Angel Hotel has had many a famous face frequent it's rooms including Angelia Jolie whilst filming the Tomb Raider films and Pierce Brosnan when filming 'Tomorrow Never Dies'. And it doesn't get any more romantic than staying in the room where Romeo & Juliet author William Shakespeare often stayed.

Upthorpe Lodges

With a stay at Upthorpe Lodges, you can do as much or as little as you want during your stay. If a little rest and relaxation is what you desire, then spend an hour or two in your own private hot tub. The lodges are for couples only, so are designed with romance in mind. Each luxury eco-lodge comes with a king size bed, large shower, smart TV and a fully equipped kitchen; where you can rustle up something for a romantic dinner, but should you wish to put your feet up, there are a selection of pubs and eateries in the surrounding villages. 

If you fancy exploring the surround Suffolk countryside, there are numerous footpaths and bridleways leading off from the lodges, plus there are bicycles available to hire for those wishing to head a little further and visit the nearby villages. 

West Stow Hall B&B

When it's cold outside, where better to spend a few days with your other half than sitting in front of a roaring fire at the historic and stunning West Stow Hall, a Grade 1 listed Tutor home which is now a boutique B&B. 

Upon arrival, walk through the ancient Gatehouse and the colonnade which links it to the main house and enjoy afternoon tea in the sitting room with its magnificent inglenook fireplace - the largest in Suffolk!
