Enjoy autumn wine tasting dinners in historic Lavenham

Enjoy French wines, spanish sherries and a fabulous five course dinner set in the historic and beautiful surroundings of the 15th century Swan at Lavenham Hotel and Spa this November.

Both evenings are the result of an inspired collaboration between the Swan’s Sommelier and Wine Buyer François Belin, and Head Chef Justin Kett with wines chosen to perfectly compliment the five-course dinners.

On Friday, 9th November you can experience wines from France’s Rhône Valley with Michel Chapoutier, or book a place for 30th November and sample a selection of fine Spanish sherries from Bodegas Hidalgo La Gitana.

Although the Chapoutier family have been making wine in the Rhône Valley since 1808, it wasn’t until Michel Chapoutier took over production in 1990 that a programme of research and improvement was undertaken to create wines of great character with much of the estate farmed biodynamically. Minimal intervention in the winery now ensures great fruit is turned into memorable wine. With extensive vineyards in Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, St Peray, Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Michel Chapoutier’s wines are amongst the most highly acclaimed in the world. The selection at the wine tasting dinner includes Châteauneuf-du-Pape, La Bernardine 2015 and Crozes-Hermitage, Les Meysonniers 2015 both offered with the main dish of slow roast lamp rump.

Since it was founded by Don José Pantoja Hidalgo in 1792, Bodegas Hidalgo La Gitana is one of the few wine companies to have passed from father to son. Today it is managed by the eighth generation of the founder with its own vineyards located in Balbaina and Miraflores. During the 19th century, the company grew to become one of the most important producers of Manzanilla in the world. Its flagship product, Manzanilla La Gitana, which means ‘the gypsy woman’, is backed by several important international awards, and is the most popular Manzanilla in both national and international markets. There will be a chance to sample this fine wine on 30th November.

The wine tasting dinners begin at 7pm with a selection of canapés in the lounge and a welcome aperitif. This is followed by the dinner served at 7.30pm in The Swan’s elegant private dining room with guests seated together at the banquet table.

The dinners are priced at £69 per person or from £300 for two people including an overnight stay with a full Suffolk breakfast based on sharing a double or twin room. As these wine dinners are very popular and places are limited, early reservation is recommended; any special dietary requirements should also be advised when booking as it is a set menu.
