Visit some of Bury St Edmunds award-winning restaurants during the Bury St Edmunds Festival

The Bury St Edmunds Festival is coming up, and whether you're visiting the historic town for a concert, a night at the comedy club, theatre, dance or film, make the most of your stay and fill your boots with a trip to one of the many cafes and restaurants on offer. 

Cafes and Coffee Shops

Start your day with a delicious breakfast, with a steaming hot cup or coffee or pot of tea in one of Bury St Edmund's cafes. There's something to suit all tastebuds; find a comfy sofa and order your choice of brunch at Edmundo Lounge. Choose from the Lounge Breakfast, Granola Breakfast Bowl, Sweet Potato Waffles, Avocado Brunch or Triple-Stacked Buttermilk pancakes. 

There's an array of coffee and tea on offer at Baileys 2, along with a delicious menu of breakfasts, cakes, pastries, sandwiches or find yourself a spot at one of the tables at Really Rather Good. Located on Angel Hill, the cafe boasts an extensive coffee and tea menu alongside an array of freshly made sandwiches, toasties, paninis and cakes. 

If you're a coffee connoisseur, make sure you stop by Guat's Up; serving Butterworth & Son's blends and loose leaf teas plus cakes and pastries or head to The Bay Tree on St Johns Street. The cafe and bistro serves great coffee, speciality teas & beverages as well as an extensive breakfast, brunch and lunch menu. 

Pub Grub

Perfect for grabbing a bite to eat before watching one of the headline acts, you're spoilt for choice when it comes to fabulous pubs serving delicious food in Bury St Edmunds. 

Serving quality, local produce, The One Bull serves a range of dishes including grazing boards to share (choose from cheese, seafood, deli and puds), lunch options including Pulled Beef Bap, Mussels in White Wine and Garlic Cream, Suffolk Ham and Seabass Fillet or book a table in the restaurant and pick from the dinner menu which includes Pig Plate, Steak Burger, Rose Veal Schnitzel, Smoked Applewood Cheddar, Beetroot and Red Onion Tart.

Wash your meal down with a pint of locally brewed Brewshed Beer including Pale Ale, Best Bitter, American Blonde or changing seasonal brews.

If you're a fan of pint, then head to The Masons Arms; Greene King Brewery's flagship pub. From the 16th century building, the chefs use a range of local produce to create a range of dishes and seasonal favourites including 'Curry of the Day', and fresh fish.

If you want to grab a quick bite to eat between Festival acts, then stop by The Bushel. Just a short walk from the Abbey Gardens, the historic pub serves a range of Greene King beers and food, including the Dirty Burger (Smoked cheese, chilli con carne, roasted red onions, gherkin, mustard mayonnaise, onion rings), Hot Dog, Asian Vegetable Burger, BBQ Burnt Ends Beef Melt Burger and the Avocado Burger. When ordered Monday to Friday between 12pm and 5pm you can also enjoy a pint with your food for just £1!

Bistros

Tuck into an array of tapas and mezze small plates at Casa Del Marl on Risbygate Street. If you're visiting with friends, then opt for The Sharing Party Menu which includes a range of dishes including Seranno Ham & Chorizo, Spanish Omlette, Potato & Egg Tortillas, Sherried Garlic Tomatoes, Pan-fried Button Mushrooms, Patatas Bravas, Falafel & Murammura, Deep Fried Chickpea Balls and Garlic & Chilli Prawns. To accompany your meal, choose a bottle (or two) of wine from the extensive wine list.

A Field-to-Fork establishment, Ben's Restaurant serves meat from it's own Oxford Sandy and Black Pigs and Jacob sheep. The game on the menu is seasonal and shot in Suffolk and the fruit and veg, locally grown where possible. Menu options include Ben’s Home Reared Pork Terrine; Beetroot, Cumin & Coriander Fritters, with citrus Quinoa and garlic aoili; Ben’s Bangers, Today’s Pan Roasted Fish, served in a korma sauce; Slow-cooked Beef with homemade Tagliatelle and Chargrilled Venison Haunch Steak.

If you've got a sweet tooth, then you're in for a treat with Sticky Date Pudding, Two Nut Chocolate Torte and Apple, Pear and Mulled Cider Cobbler with vanilla ice cream and toasted almonds all on the menu.

If you're looking for a place to stay and dine, then The Northgate Hotel is for you. Centrally located, it's the perfect place to head back to after a day of Festival fun. Dine in in the restaurant, which is home to Bury St Edmunds first-ever Chef's Table where 12 guests have the chance to see their food being prepared and cooked before choosing from a specially prepared tasting menu. The hotel is also home to a stylish cocktail bar - a great place to enjoy drinks before heading out to a concert or for a night-cap at the end of your day.
