New partnership aims to increase business tourism

Bury St Edmunds and Beyond has partnered with Meet Cambridge to bring a new service to members with the aim of increasing business tourism in the area.

Associate Venue Membership is an exciting new project that will see Meet Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds and Beyond, the town’s official tourism brand, working together to promote venues in the Bury St Edmunds area for business events.

The new project will provide a one-stop-shop for event organisers to ascertain availability of venues in the Bury St Edmunds through one organisation.

Not for profit, Meet Cambridge, established 1998, has been running a similar venture with Visit Cambridge for nearly two years now. A portfolio which used to comprise solely colleges, now includes some 40 non-academic venues in and around Cambridge – including dedicated conference venues, museums, hotels, country houses and other unique properties.

Meet Cambridge has clients who are looking for venues in alternative locations to Cambridge and are looking forward to talking to new event planner clients in the Bury St Edmunds region.

They will manage all enquiries; clients advise their requirements – location, facilities etc and these requests will be made available for venues that match these criteria to view and respond to.

Sue Warren, Brand and Marketing Manager for Bury St Edmunds and Beyond, said: “We are excited to be launching this new partnership with Meet Cambridge, who have been running a similar initiative with Visit Cambridge.

“It will provide a one-stop-shop for event organisers looking to find venues for events and business meetings in the Bury St Edmunds area, bringing business to our members who are venues for hire, and helping us to grow business tourism.”

The partnership was launched at Bury St Edmunds and Beyond’s Bringing Tourism Together Trade Fair, part of the West Suffolk Business Festival, at The Athenaeum yesterday (October 11).

Kelly Vickers, Managing Director of Meet Cambridge, said: “We are very excited about this excellent venture which will allow us to work collaboratively to promote the eastern region for business events. We’re inviting venues in and around Bury St Edmunds, who have great facilities for business events to join our Associate Venue Membership and look forward to promoting these to event organisers in the region, who use our free venue finding service. “Extending our venue portfolio will provide even greater choice and variety to those looking to hold corporate events of all kinds, including training sessions, seminars, workshops and one-day meetings.”
