Win a stay at Upthorpe Lodges!

There's a 4-night stay at Upthorpe Lodges up for grabs this summer!

As a celebration of their fourth birthday, Upthorpe Lodges are giving away a four-night stay to one lucky winner of their competition which is now running on their Facebook page. Entries need to be made before 1st August so why not visit their Facebook page now and you never know, you may win your own stay in a little ‘grand design’.

Upthorpe Lodges are the dream-child of Debbie and Ian Shilling who for years had watched countless ‘Grand Designs’ programmes but never had the opportunity to put anything into practice. However, they knew they had over two acres of garden and a track record of attracting visitors to Suffolk to stay at their cottage annexe. After speaking to friends they came up with the idea of building a couple of contemporary lodges, which would be as eco-friendly as they could afford, yet a touch luxurious. They were designed to attract holiday-makers after all.

After jumping through the planning hoops, and endless days project managing as well as a lot of the doing, the first two Cedar-clad lodges were completed in 2014. Debbie and Ian then embarked on the task of tempting visitors to the quiet countryside within a short drive from Bury St Edmunds. Bookings can commence on any day of the week, with stays of 3 or 4 nights being the most popular. Bookings were slow to begin with but they began to snowball and within the next four years they had used their income to add two more similar lodges to make four in total.

Debbie, a trained garden designer, was conscious from the outset that each lodge should have its own identity and she relished the task of using her design skills to create very individual characters within the same four shells. Each lodge is equipped to a very high standard and the hot tubs are icing on the cakes. Visitor reviews have consistently been five-star, though as Ian says “our best reviews are the many lovely guests who now return to us time after time”. Guests come to the lodges all year round, as the surrounding area and Bury St Edmunds have so much to offer.
