Bury St Edmunds and Beyond Gets Ready to Celebrate Suffolk Day

Take a tour, enjoy a Suffolk Day afternoon tea, and meet the owners of a Suffolk Tudor mansion to celebrate this year’s Suffolk Day (June 21).

Suffolk Day has been extended to a weekend (June 21 – 23) this year, so here’s our round-up of ways to celebrate all that is great about our county in the Bury St Edmunds area:

Join the Bury St Edmunds Tour Guides to find out how Bury St Edmunds and the county of Suffolk have co-existed since medieval times as they explore the relationship between Suffolk and its cathedral town in a special walk for the Suffolk Day Big Weekender. You’ll discover why Bury St Edmunds has a cathedral (but the bishop lives in Ipswich) and why the Abbey of St Edmund was so powerful and important in medieval Suffolk. It was for centuries the focal point of the county at times of national turmoil.

Suffolk and Bury St Edmunds: A Perfect Fit Walk takes place on Saturday 22 June at 11am and 2pm and Sunday 23 June at 2pm and starts from St Edmundsbury Cathedral. Adults £6, children 16 and under free. Booking essential at http://www.burystedmundstourguides.org

Why not enjoy a guided tour of St Edmundsbury Cathedral on Suffolk Day Friday June 21 at 11 am on the Friday or a Cathedral Tower Tour on Saturday June 22 at 10.30am, followed by a special ‘Suffolk Day Afternoon Tea’ at Pilgrim's Kitchen. You can choose from Traditional or Savoury Afternoon Tea, for £13.00 pp or upgrade to include a glass of prosecco or Old Speckled Hen for £16.50 pp. Booking essential on 01284 748738.

For Suffolk Day, the arc shopping centre is inviting local charities, community groups and clubs and the public to join them in Charter Square on Friday 21st June for The Great Get Together.
