Whether you're staying in Bury St Edmunds & Beyond for a holiday or visiting for the day, there are plenty of family-friendly eateries to choose from serving a range of dishes that will suit all tastes and ages! We've picked a few of our favourites for you to try!

1. The Bay Tree

A fab, family-run cafe that's well worth a trip for breakfast or lunch. The extensive breakfast menu at The Bay Tree includes a full breakfast with sausages, smoked bacon, grilled mushrooms, eggs and tomatoes (plus a small breakfast for smaller appetites), scrambled eggs on toast, avocado on toast and waffles with maple syrup and fresh berries.

Stop by for cakes and pastries or find a table for lunch and choose from a range of toasties, paninis, sandwiches, pizzini (open toasted panini with hot grilled toppings), and 'Bay Tree Classics'; Aussie style burger, cheese burger, homemade sausage roll, honey roast chicken and hot club roll. 

2. The Ickworth Hotel

The Ickworth makes family meal times easy and convenient, with menus geared-up for children: whether they favour mocktails and macaroni cheese or boiled eggs and burgers. Kids’ meals and light snacks are served from 12pm to 8.30pm, and if you're enjoying a stay at the hotel, you're welcome to have meals delivered to your room or take advantage of this 'Children’s ‘High Tea'. The hotel's chef can also provide fresh, pureed baby food from 7am to 10pm.

The restaurant's children menu boasts cheeseburger, rump steak, coconut chicken curry, spaghetti with tomato sauce, macaroni & cheese, fish goujons and cheesy quesadillas.

Desserts include ice cream with chocolate sauce, banana split, strawberries & cream, and chocolate brownie sundae. 

3. The Angel Hotel

The historic Angel Hotel, located in the heart of Bury St Edmunds, is set to open the doors to it's restaurant after an exciting makeover. Catering for all appetites, there's a delicious children's menu on offer which includes sausage, egg & chips; sausage, mash, green & gravy; battered fish & chips and macaroni cheese.

For dessert there's fresh fruit salad, ice cream & chocolate sauce, chocolate brownie & vanilla ice cream and rocky road sundae.

For an extra special treat, why not book the children's afternoon tea! Delights include ham sandwich, cheese & cucumber sandwich and homemade sausage roll, with sweet treats including marshmallow, cupcake, chocolate brownie and fruit scone with clotted cream and jam. Children can choose from a babyccino, hot chocolate, orange or apple juice to accompany their food. 

4. The Bushel

Just a short walk from the historic Abbey Gardens, The Bushel is ideally located for lunch or dinner after exploring the Abbey ruins and Cathedral.  15th century coaching inn, this relaxed pub serves a range of dishes made with local produce. There's a range of dishes from lite bites including Cumberland Scotch egg, soup of the day and baked Camembert, sandwiches and baked potatoes; through to hearty meals such as cheese & onion beef burger, avocado & chorizo beef burger, fish pie, tomato & mozzarella salad, Caesar salad, lamb rump and seafood grill.

Sharing platters are great for families too, including chicken & halloumi tray, fish & chip board, meat slider board, nachos and kerk duck nachos and you can finish off your meal with triple chocolate brownie with mint ice cream. 

5. The Bear Inn Beyton

A country pub in the pretty village of Beyton, The Bear Inn welcomes children in it's restaurant until 8pm. It's a great place to stop for a hearty lunch or family Sunday lunch after a walk through the Suffolk countryside. 

The 'Cubs Menu' for under 8s, includes tomato penne pasta, homemade fish goujons and homemade burger, all served with peas or beans, followed by a scoop of ice cream.

For grown ups, there's a varied menu including 'Bear Favourites'; Beer battered cod and hand cut chips, Chef's Thai massaman curry, The Bear Burger, griddled halloumi burger, and venison, mushroom & ale stew plus chargrilled duck breast and chargrilled portobello mushroom with a choice of sauces.  

6. Amigos

Amigos is a family-fun Mexican restaurant with a menu that will appeal to all ages! Don your sombrero and choose from authentic Mexican street tacos, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, chimichangas and salads. 

The El Super Ninos (kids) menu boasts the DIY Taco, chicken or chsee quesadilla, chicken, steak or bean & cheese burrito, chicken or steak fajita, or kids burger with fries. The meal comes with a choice of drink and a scoop of ice cream to finish!

There are Mexican desserts on offer too, choose from caramel or chocolate filled churros and Mexican flan, plus chocolate brownie, ice cream and chocolate fudge cake.

7. Edmundo Lounge

An informal and relaxed cafe bar, with a range of seating options to suit all sizes of family. Find a table or sofa at Edmundo Lounge and order from the extensive menu which serves everything from brunch and lunch, through to Tapas and dinner. 

The menu includes sandwiches, paninis, wraps ciabattas and burritos, grilled halloumi and falafel salad, Hero Burger (a 6oz patty with American cheese, red fried onion, chimichurri, chipotle mayo and marinated chilli), halloumi burger, chicken, bacon & avacado burger, macaroni cheese, hot smoked salmon fishcake, Mexican superbowl and bang bang chicken to name a few.

Children can choose from baked beans on toast, sausages and chips, macaroni cheese, beef burger, breaded chicken lollipops, falafel burger and spaghetti and meatballs. With puddings to finish including vanilla ice cream, fruit sundae and chocolate brownie.
