Lighting Up Bury St Edmunds for Christmas

Bury St Edmunds will be turning on its Christmas lights on Thursday 14 November with a fun packed afternoon and evening across the town and there's free parking from 4pm!

There will be a packed programme of street and stage entertainment and over 40 festive fundraising stalls for charities from 3pm on The Buttermarket and The Cornhill, organised by Our Bury St Edmunds BID. The Suffolk Constabulary Male Voice Choir will be performing on stage along with local schools (outside Moyse's Hall Museum), there will be fairground rises, a magician and balloon modeller, huskies, The Snow Queen and her Snowman friend, plus The Three Christmas Bears!

Over at the arc shopping centre from 4pm there will be performances from local dance school, Jessica Barber’s school of dance, and The Ukulele Elves, who have a tip-top repertoire of Christmas classics guaranteed to get you singing.

As the sun goes down, beautiful Light walkers will head out to meet families in a multicolour swirl of costume and light, and ahead of their very busy month Snow Queen Elsa and her sister Anna will also be visiting.

During the evening the arc will be launching ‘Merry Win’mas’ which will give shoppers at arc the opportunity to win great prizes just by doing their Christmas shopping. The promotion will give customers the chance to win up to £100 every time they spend over £20 in spend in the shopping centre.  The promotion will run on Thursdays (14th and 28th November and Thursday 5th, 12th, 19th December) betweenbetween 3pm - 8pm, during this time shoppers are invited to pick up a Merry WINmas scratch card for their chance to win one of the great prizes up for grabs. Scratch cards will be given to those who have spent £20 or more in arc shopping centre.  Shoppers simply need to take their receipts to the Merry WINmas team located in Charter Square, to claim their scratch card. There are all sorts of prizes up for grabs, including free Costa Coffees, free muffins from Muffin Break, £10 vouchers, £25 vouchers through to ‘hot cards’ worth £100. So, make sure you pop along to arc shopping centre on a Thursday before Christmas for your chance to win! 

The entertainment in the town centre and the arc shopping centre will go on until 8pm and many of the town's High Street brands and independent shops will be open - why not treat yourself to a meal out in one of Bury St Edmunds' many eateries?

Father Christmas will turn on the arc shopping centre lights at 7.15pm. The town centre lights will be switched on at 6.55pm.

A Bury St Edmunds restaurant manager who saved a customer’s life on his first day at work in the branch, has been chosen as this year’s ‘Local Hero’ who will switch on the town centre Christmas Lights.  Daniel Challenor, who works at Wagamama in the arc shopping centre, gave CPR to a customer who’d collapsed while having a family lunch. Daniel has subsequently been presented with a bravery award from the Humane Society for his actions.
