The force is strong in Bury St Edmunds this Autumn ...

This Autumn, in a galaxy far, far away (also known as Bury St Edmunds), Moyse’s Hall celebrate their 11th annual Sci-Fi Exhibition.

To celebrate, the museum will have on display one of the UK's finest collections of vintage Star Wars toys and memorabilia, for their new exhibition ‘May The Toys Be With You’.

Visitors will be able to see a unique selection of a highly collectable vintage toy line and also of the iconic design work and art of the Star Wars movies on their doorsteps from now until 24 December.

Star Wars broke box office records in 1977 but no one could have predicted that the merchandising would go on to earn even more than the film itself. The toys took the world by storm and became the must-have playthings for an entire generation.

From 1977-1985 an estimated 300 million action figures were sold. From X-Wing Fighters to lightsabers, these fantastical concepts have fired our imaginations and stamped their place on our cultural landscape. For little and big kids alike this is an unmissable opportunity to view many rarely seen Star Wars Treasures.

Yoda have to be mad to miss it…

Lance Alexander, Heritage Operations Manager, commented “The museum is delighted to be the first in this region to display this amazing collection. As someone that was around and collected these toys back in the late 70s and early 80s, it is a real treat to see them again in all their glory. Many of the pieces are incredibly rare and valuable, complete and even after 40 years in mint condition. Also to see paraphernalia surrounding the toys like movie posters, toy adverts and original blue prints only adds to the special display at Moyse’s Hall.”

This special exhibition will launch on Saturday 28 September in a fun-filled launch weekend with a chance to meet and take selfie’s with Lord Vader, plus other costumed characters celebrate the opening.

As Family Friendly museum of the year 2017, Moyse’s Hall will be celebrating half-term in full sci-fi style with exhibition trails, quizzes, and have-a-go-activities – fun for all the ages! Visitors can find out if they’re in the Galactic Empire or Rebellion with their Star Wars Trail.

From Saturday 19 – Sunday 20 October Vader’s Raiders will return with everyone from Stormtroopers to Wookies, Sith Lords to R2-D2. Visitors can have a picture taken, hear advice on how to join the Empire or just tell them where the Droids are hidden!

Then from Thursday 24 – Friday 25 October future TIE Fighter Pilot, Scout Trooper, AT-AT driver, Death Star Janitor or Stormtroopers should come down to a special recruitment day…  Find out what it takes to battle for the Emperor and Empire against those pesky Rebels. Meet Captain Xander, handle blaster rifles, pistols and Imperial equipment. Perform tasks – including laser gun shooting range and learning the Aurebesh Star Wars alphabet at the Enlist in the Empire! event at The Apex.

A certificate will be issued to all successful recruits. Booking essential for these brilliant sessions.

And if that wasn’t enough to draw in fans of all ages, every visitor entering the exhibition will be entered in to a draw to win their very own piece of movie history. Courtesy of the exhibition sponsor The Movie Reliquary you could win a rare production used piece of the death star from ‘Star Wars: Return of the Jedi’.

This adventurous exhibition is spread out across the various galleries in the museum, so that visitors also have an opportunity to see the historical collections housed in this 900 year-old building.

This touring exhibition has broken visitor attendance records at a host of museums around the country, and this will be its first time in East Anglia.

So grab your lightsabre and prepare for a trip to the silver screen… The exhibition will be open Monday to Saturday, 10am – 5pm and Sunday, 12pm – 4pm with admission only £5 for adults and £3 for children.
