Christmas Day Dining Guide

After a rather long year of a lot of banana bread baking, DIY and zoom calls, you're probably looking forward to putting your feet up and leaving the cooking to the professionals this Christmas.

The Northgate 

The Northgate is well known for creating luxury Christmas events for all, with great attention to detail and magical flourishes aplenty. Their Christmas day menu is a celebration of local ingredients and lavish favour combinations and £99 per person includes nibbles on arrival, canapés, a starter, main and dessert as well as warm mince pies, truffles, tea and coffee to round off the evening.

Ease into the festivities with bubbles accompanied by olives, cheese straws and homemade bread, followed by delicious canapés including chestnut mushroom, Parmesan and black garlic arancini, smoked haddock tart and cheese puffs.

Enjoy a refreshing starter of cold smoked salmon, apple and celeriac salad followed by a choice of mains including; roast turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets, and sage gravy, slow cooked and glazed ham with carrot purée and apple chutney or roast squash tartlet, sage and shallot vinaigrette and curried crispy pumpkin seeds. All served with roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables of course. Dessert is a real treat with a choice of Christmas pudding, brandy butter and Chantilly cream or dark chocolate mousse, coffee ice cream and crispy wafer coconut caramel- truly an experience to savour.

The Weeping Willow 

For a wonderfully detailed Christmas menu, visit the Weeping Willow where elegance and fun collide. For £95 per person you can enjoy bubbly, olives and bread on arrival, followed by a tempting choice of starters including roasted celeriac, Bramley apple, local honey and pickled walnut soup, Blythburgh pork and Denham Estate venison terrine with clementine and cranberry chutney or beetroot and gin cured salmon with pickles and smoked scallop aioli. 

The main courses make it equally difficult to choose, with wild turbot and lobster bisque, sweet potato wellington with braised lentils and wild mushrooms and BBQ lamp rump with minted dauphinoise among the options, alongside the traditional roast turkey ballotine with duck roasted potatoes and pigs in blankets. 

Desserts include classic willow sherry trifle, chocolate tart with caramel pecan ice cream and traditional Christmas pudding. Round off the meal with warm mince pies, tea and coffee.

Ravenwood Hall 

Ravenwood Hall is a grand, historic hotel set in the depths of the Suffolk countryside with warm, regal interiors and a welcoming ambience. This Christmas and Boxing Day pay Ravenwood hall a visit to enjoy an enchanted festive occasion.

Begin your meal with a lobster & langoustine bisque and crab claw beignet with smoked paprika oil. Follow this with a tasty second course of black treacle cured Suffolk ham hock with pickled granny smith apple, curly endive, pork crackling croutons and apple dressing.

The Great House, Lavenham

If you’d like to experience award-winning French cuisine in an English country house, look no further than The Great House Restaurant. Opt for a decadent Christmas day or Christmas Eve dinner at one of the best restaurants in the East of England. The menu is intriguing and mouth watering in equal measure and is sure to be a talking point this festive season. 

Begin the meal with an amuse bouche of Colchester rock oysters with natural oyster scented shallots and red wine puree, oyster gratin with crème fraiche and parmesan and deep fried oyster coated in Panko crumb with a chili and lemon mayonnaise. The first starter is duck foie gras marinated in Williams Pear Liqueur, hazelnuts brioche, conference pear icing, pear and sweet spice gel and hazelnut powder. The second starter is an unusual smoked eel pannacota topped with caviar, carrot puree, pomme soufflé and carrot and orange foam.

Next, sample a fish course of steamed turbot fillet, red and yellow beetroot scales, beetroot and vanilla chutney, dill sabayon, beetroot ketchup and yellow beetroot gel. This is followed by the main event; venison saddle with a black truffle and venison stuffing, venison jus and cauliflower texture. The cheese course combines crispy filo pastry cannelloni and Roquefort Chantilly, vibrato 70% dark chocolate crèmeux, rocket leaves and candied walnuts. 

For pre-dessert, savor the quince dim sum; rice paper filled with quince & Christmas tea compote and “crème de Bresse gastronomique d’Etrez” Christmas tea sauce. Finally, dessert is a light “biscuit de Savoie”, chestnut cream heart, Mekonga 70% dark chocolate, chestnut and Madong 70% dark chocolate crèmeux, chestnut and whisky chunks with milk and chestnut ice cream.

Experience this outstanding seven-course lunch for £135 per person, with an optional wine pairing menu for £65.

The Angel Hotel

The Angel Hotel’s atmospheric eatery has glorious views of the Abbey; a beautiful setting for festive relaxation and indulgence. This year, The Angel are offering two sittings for the most important meal of the year- Christmas lunch or dinner, and will also be serving a Christmas eve and Boxing Day dinner. 

Enjoy Champagne and delicious canapés on arrival followed by a five course feast for £105 per adult, with a half portion available for £50 per child. The menu is exciting, with ham hock and rabbit terrine with spicy pineapple relish to start, followed by pan-fried king scallops with black pudding and caramelised apple. 

The main course is of course, roast Norfolk black turkey, goose fat potatoes and all the trimmings and for dessert you can enjoy homemade Christmas pudding with brandy and custard. End the meal with cheese, tea and coffee, delightful.

Bedford Lodge Hotel and Spa 

Originally a Georgian hunting lodge, today Bedford Lodge combines the charm and character of a country house with the very best in modern luxury and comfort. This Christmas they invite you to create long lasting memories with a magical dining experience on Christmas day, Christmas eve or Boxing day. The Christmas fayre menu is priced at two courses for £35.00 and three courses £41.00. 

Choose from starters of cream of parsnip & Stilton soup with curried cheese croute and Herb Oil, ham & pheasant terrine with fennel slaw, charred sour dough, salmon tartare, shallots, Capers and crème fraiche and caramelised red onion & goats cheese tart with candied pecans.

Mains dishes include seared sea bass fillets with saffron new potatoes and bean ragout, traditional Norfolk turkey & chestnut stuffing with roast potatoes, chipolata & bacon scrolls and cranberry sauce. As well as braised Abbey Farm lamb rump with Suffolk gold mash, pearl onions, butter beans and a rosemary & redcurrant jus.

For dessert, enjoy Christmas pudding with nuts & brandy soaked fruits and brandy sauce or ginger cheesecake, crystallised ginger and chocolate sauce. This is followed by a yummy cheese selection with biscuits & crackers, fruit chutney, celery & grapes, then coffee, tea & mince Pies.

The Swan at Lavenham 

For a December to remember, The Swan at Lavenham is the go-to destination for a wide choice of festive dining experiences. Dine there on Christmas Eve, Boxing day and the big day itself, with a delightful festive menu to inspire the senses and delight the taste buds. 

To start, ash goats’ cheese with quince terrine, hazelnuts, poached pear and chicory followed by a fish course of buttered hake, curry, lime, and puffed rice. The Priory Hotel

The historic, grade II listed Priory Hotel is inviting guests to come together for the best meal of the year and celebrate with a delicious five-course gourmet lunch menu on Christmas or Boxing Day.

The main courses are delectable, with traditional turkey breast, pigs in blankets, sage and cranberry stuffing with a rich pan gravy, alongside an offering of pan seared cod fillet, creamed potatoes, spinach and lemon butter, both served with roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables. You’ll be spoilt for choice with the delectable desserts on offer, including a divine chocolate and orange torte, good old Christmas pud with brandy butter and rum sauce, as well as a luxurious lemon posset. 

Relax with tea, coffee and warm mince pies to end the meal. Enjoy this festive feast for £55 per person.
