Cinemas to Reopen in Bury St Edmunds

Film-goers the wait is over - Abbeygate Cinema and Cineworld in Bury St Edmunds are set to reopen next month!

Abbeygate Cinema will reopen on Friday 10 July and Cineworld Bury St Edmunds will reopen on Friday 31 July.

Abbeygate Cinema will be showing a selection of favourite film titles, hits of the last few years and audience requests plus of course Screen Arts high-lights – all will play out over Matinee/Teatime screenings.

Moving forward, they hope to increase their opening hours and increase the programme content as new films become available.

They are working hard on making the cinema and restaurant as safe as possible for staff and returning customers - measures include: Working to Government social distancing guidelines, the provision of hand sanitizer stations, increased cleaning rotas of all contact points throughout the day, film times staggered to allow for screen sanitising between shows, contactless payment and the use of masks.

The cinema also hopes to open their new Premiere Screen very soon.

Abbeygate Cinema is currently offering a coffee & cake take-away service which includes hot drinks and freshly baked goods from its No4 Restaurant & Bar. Their phased re-open will see the No.4 Restaurant & Bar open its doors from Saturday 4 July offering a selection of your favourite dishes from our menu for daytimes through to 3pm, moving to a full re-open later in the month.

Andrea Holmes, Marketing Manager said: “We are thrilled to be able to begin the phased re-opening of Abbeygate Cinema and this starts with the take-away service now available. Along with many other businesses in town, we hope this will help to kick-start some normality for our customers by offering them the chance to pop in and buy their favourite drinks and cakes when in town.

"We plan to move to the restaurant re-open at the beginning of July and the final phase will be to open the doors to our cinema screens and offer a film screening schedule once again. We are working hard to ensure our premises are COVID-secure and we look forward to seeing you all again very soon!”
