Around the World in 80 Days at Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds - 21 May - 5 June 2021

A sparkling new version of one of the world’s great adventure stories, Around the World in Eighty Days, directed by the theatre’s Artistic Director, Owen Calvert-Lyons, sponsored by Chassis Cab and opening on Friday 21 May at Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds.

Audiences will follow dashing Victorian adventurer Phileas Fogg in this fast-paced comedy as he embarks on a journey across the globe, aiming to complete the feat in record time. A cast of three will play over twenty characters in this epic tale of adventure.

Moments Exhibition at Moyse's Hall Museum - 23 May - 30 September 2021

In association with Brandler Galleries, Moyse’s Hall Museum is excited to invite you to ‘share a moment’ with a unique collection of modern art created by some of the world’s best-known artists, including Banksy, Tracy Emin, Damien Hirst, The Connor Brothers, Blek Le Rat, Pure Evil, Rachel List and Kaws.

The exhibition will be supplemented by a range of workshops, live art demonstrations, talks and other events all themed around the concept of ‘moments’. A truly unique and unmissable event in Bury St Edmunds this summer!

Kentwell's History Festival - 29 & 30 May

The ultimate day of History Time Travel! The History Festival explores pockets of history from a range of different eras brought to life by Kentwell Hall's skilled living historians, spread throughout the house, gardens, farm and woodlands.  Spend a whole day immersed in history at Kentwell and travel through time. Travel from the stone age to the 20th Century, with each time period in its own individual setting, all properly equipped and costumed, and doing activities appropriate to each individual period.

An excellent and stimulating combination of history and nostalgia, over 2000 years of history in one place, on one day!

Our Bury St Edmunds Whitsun Fayre - 30 & 31 May 2021

The ever-popular plant and flower stalls will make a return to the Buttermarket and Cornhill for the Our Bury St Edmunds Whitsun Fayre 2021. Revel in the countless colours of spring and summer with row upon row of floral beauty. You'll find flower and plant stalls as well as craft stalls in Buttermarket and Cornhill, a selection of food and drink, charity stalls and a Flower, Food & Craft Market on Angel Hill.

Meet the 95th Rifles at West Stow Country Park - 30 & 31 May

Meet the 95th Rifles when they are camped at West Stow and find out how the Baker rifles beat Napoleon. You can talk to a ‘chosen man’, try one of the famous green jackets or feel the weight of a Baker rifle and experience drill and firing displays - bringing the past to life.

War (and peace) at Kentwell Hall - 12 & 13 June

Discover more about military history through the ages as it is brought to life by Kentwell Hall's expert living historians.  

War (and peace) illustrates the everyday lives of those involved with conflict and the lives  of those on the home front, over several periods of history. The House itself will not be open - the history will be spread out among the 30 acres of gardens and grounds, in separate 'time bubbles'. Kentwell's Gardens are extensive and provide quiet space for comfortable relaxation in beautiful surroundings. 

This year, there will be Vikings, Tudor Archers, a Regency Recruiting Party and attendant surgeon, an Edwardian hospital, WWI Army, 1919 Hospital Supplies ladies, WWII Home Guard and Suffolk Regiment and the 1960s Peace Camp, all spread out around the gardens and grounds for you to enjoy.

Nearly Festival - 3 & 4 July

The Nearly Festival returns to the Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds! A truly family festival experience features fantastic acts live on stage, a dedicated Kids Zone to keep the tear-aways busy all day, a delicious street food market with it’s amazing choice of foods and a chilled pub in the park makes sure Dad doesn’t go thirsty and only pays pub prices!

Bury Hidden Gardens - 11 July

Bury St Edmunds has many fine and historic buildings, but Hidden Gardens gives people the chance to discover the secret patios, lawns, borders, vegetable gardens, greenhouses and other features behind their facades and high walls.

All the gardens are in the town centre and within walking distance of each other, with many serving light refreshments for you to enjoy!

Classic Car Show - 18 July

The Classic Car Show is back in 2021 at Culford School, 4 miles outside of Bury St Edmunds. This year's show is bigger and better than ever with over 500 exhibitor cars plus hot and cold food stands, open bar, a range of stalls and various other activities. Tickets are available on the gate.

Shakespeare Picnic in the Park 'Twelfth Night' - 20 - 24 July 

Bury Theatre Workshop, a Community Theatre Company, presents William Shakespeare’s 'Twelfth Night', in the enchanting setting of the Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds.

Open Air Theatre - A Midsummer Night's Dream at West Stow - 18 August

East Anglian Beer & Cider Festival - 25 - 30 August

For six days, the St Edmundsbury Cathedral will host over 200 real ales, 40 ciders, food stalls and come alive with a Sound Stage and full entertainment programme at the East Anglian Beer & Cider Festival. 

By kind permission of the Dean & Chapter, the relaunch of the 29th East Anglian Beer & Cider Festival will take place in the Cathedral, Cloisters and Garth in Bury St Edmunds, coinciding with the town’s annual Food & Drink Festival and Late Summer Bank Holiday weekend.

Red Rooster Festival - 27 - 29 August

Blues, Rhythm & Rock Festival - 28 August

Following the success of the first year, Solid Entertainments are pleased to announce the second annual Bury St Edmunds Blues, Rhythm and Rock Festival at The Apex.

Dana Gillespie and the London Blues Band have been confirmed as this year's headline acts, with performances also from Kyla Brox, Jimmy Regal and the Royals, The Ryk Mead Band and The Cinelli Brothers with more to be announced!

Bury St Edmunds Food & Drink Festival - 29 & 30 August

Foodies will love the two day Our Bury St Edmunds Food and Drink Festival held on August Bank Holiday weekend. 

With an annual line-up of cooking demonstrations from top celebrity chefs, the chance to taste and purchase food and drink from over 100 stalls and a popular farmer’s market, this is a foodie’s heaven. 

Food-lovers will have chance to see an Our Bury St Edmunds favourite celebrity chef again this year when the popular Paul Rankin returns. Paul will turn up the heat in the Stoves Cookery Theatre on Bank Holiday Monday while on Sunday, newcomer to the event and former soap star Sean Wilson will be donning his chefs’ whites.

Sean and Paul will each make three appearances in front of the Cookery Theatre crowds with top chefs from some of Bury’s favourite restaurants taking the other spots on the menu.

RingQuest - 23 - 31 October

The Lord of the Rings themed family event 'Ring Quest' is back at West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village and Country Park for for October half term 2021.

Bigger than ever, the event is celebrating 20 years since ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’ hit the big screen!

As well as the Ring Quest trail, there are the huge spiders of Mirkwood and a dragon guarding its treasure to see. Complete the Ring Quest and find the rings and runes to save Middle Earth.

See the small exhibition on Ring Quest, visit the Hobbit Hole and Mirkwood, meet Halbarad the Ranger of the North, and try your hand at archery.

Tell Me on a Sunday - 2 - 6 November

Coming to the Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds, Jodie Prenger stars as ‘Emma’, in the 2021 UK tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Don Black’s classic musical, 'Tell me on a Sunday' reprising a role Jodie first brought to life in 2016.

The musical charts the romantic misadventures of a young English girl in New York in the heady days of the 1980’s. Brimming with optimism, she seeks success and love. But as she weaves her way through the maze of the city and her own anxieties, frustrations and heartaches she begins to wonder whether she’s been looking for love in all the wrong places.

Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds' popular annual panto 'Cinderella' is back! t’s a busy day in Bury! On Butter Market Square, Buttons the barrow boy flogs his fruit. On Hardwick Heath, Prince Charming frets over his future. And up at Sickworth House, Kylie and Miley are making Cinderella’s life a misery. Poor old Cinders! All she knows is domestic drudgery, day in, day out… but this day is different, this day is special and when this day is done, nothing will ever be the same again.
