Father's Day Afternoon Tea at The Swan at Lavenham

All dads enjoying afternoon tea at the 15th century Swan at Lavenham Hotel and Spa on Father’ Day, Sunday 20 June, will receive an extra tasty treat to take home.

Whether dad tucks into a quintessentially British cream tea or the indulgent Gentlemen’s afternoon tea experience, he will be given a specially wrapped savarin shaped rum baba cake with butter cream and a glacé cherry, to continue his Father’s Day celebrations at home.

The Traditional Afternoon Tea includes a selection of classic finger sandwiches filled with local Suffolk ingredients, followed by plain and sultana scones with preserves and clotted cream and individual cakes and pastries, paired with a pot of Newby’s of London tea or coffee.

The Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea also begins with the finger sandwiches and includes the Newby’s of London teas but that’s where the similarities end. The sweet scones are replaced with stilton and sun dried tomato and basil served with herb butter and instead of the cakes there is a choice of tasty savouries. These might include prawn arancini, sausage rolls, Piri Piri grilled chicken and chicken liver pâté on a brioche.

Whichever menu you choose, the sweet and savoury delights are served stage-by-stage on bespoke Royal Worcester fine bone china.

Served from 2.30pm until 5pm in either the elegant beamed Gallery restaurant, lounge or fragrant courtyard garden (weather permitting), afternoon tea is priced from £25 per person or £36.50 with a glass of sparkling champagne. Prebooking is essential either by email to info@theswanatlavenham.co.uk or calling  01787 247477.  For more details visit  www.theswanatlavenham.co.uk

Our Bury St Edmunds Gift Card

Dads and Grandads in Bury St Edmunds could be given the chance to choose from one or more of 60 different outlets for their Father’s Day gift this year – if they receive an Our Bury St Edmunds Gift Card on Sunday June 20. And they’ll be helping to support local businesses after the pandemic brought some of the most challenging times seen on the high street.

It means no more agonising over whether to buy socks or a shirt, books or beer as traditional gifts hit the shelves – because the Our Bury St Edmunds Gift Card can be spent in multiple local businesses including pubs, restaurants and entertainment venues as well as local independent and national retailers. The card, which is promoted by the Business Improvement District (BID) organisation works in the same way as buying a gift card for any individual retailer.  It can be purchased online and sent in the post or picked up at a number of shops in the town centre and loaded with an amount of the giver’s choice. The money is then locked into the local economy rather than one national brand.
