The town’s tourism brand Bury St Edmunds and Beyond and The Apex Gallery teamed up to host the competition which recognises the wealth of destination-inspired photographic talent in the region - and further afield. The competition and exhibition are sponsored by Jessops, Denny Bros Supplies Ltd, Sodexo Prestige and The Design Office with support from Tom Soper Photography and media partners Iliffe Media.
All winning and commended photographs will go on display at a fantastic new free entry exhibition at the town’s only public art gallery at The Apex Gallery from Wednesday August 21 to Sunday September 15.
The overall adult winner of the competition is Rebecca Moon, from Clitheroe in Lancashire, for her entry ‘St Edmundsbury’s Glory’ which features the stunning ceiling of St Edmundsbury Cathedral. Rebecca has won a camera worth £350, courtesy of Jessops.

Highly commended were Scott Taylor, 17, from Elmswell, for ‘Ickworth At Dusk’ and Isabelle Lock, 13, from Newmarket, for ‘Best House in the Village’.
There were also winners of 5 categories:
The Abbey of St Edmund – capturing the beauty of the ruins of the Abbey of St Edmund which marks its 1,000th Anniversary in 2020.
Icons – celebrating iconic buildings and architecture in Bury St Edmunds and Beyond
Great Outdoors – beautiful parks, gardens and countryside in and around Bury St Edmunds
Villages – showcasing the rural beauty of villages surrounding Bury St Edmunds
Night time – exploring Bury St Edmunds and Beyond at night
Sue Warren, Brand and Marketing Manager for Bury St Edmunds and Beyond, the town’s tourism brand, said: “We have been really delighted and surprised by the number of entries to the competition which have come from a mixture of residents and visitors. It was such a high standard of entry that it was very difficult for the judges to choose the winners and highly commended.
“All of the winners showed great skills in their photography in terms of the skills needed to capture their shot and composition, in particular the finalists in the night time category as night time shots are particularly difficult to get right, and all interpreted the categories for the competition very well.”
During the exhibition there will be a people’s vote to find out the public’s overall favourite. People will be able to vote when they visit the exhibition.
The Bury St Edmunds and Beyond Photography Exhibition at The Apex Gallery will be open from Wednesday 21 August 20 to Sunday September 15 from 10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10-am to 4pm on Sundays.
Cllr Joanna Rayner, West Suffolk Council Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the success of the competition. We had a tremendous 383 entries across adults and under 18s and we are very much looking forward to hosting the exhibition with the shortlisted photographs here at The Apex until September 15.”
