About this Business

Thelnetham windmill stands in the tranquil Suffolk countryside between Ixworth and Diss and was built in 1819 and lovingly restored to working order in the 1980s.

In 2013 ownership of the mill was passed onto the Suffolk Building Preservation Trust. The mill is now regularly maintained by highly skilled volunteers.

The site is constantly changing, and now has a recently constructed wooden granary that will soon house a permanent display of windmill related items and bygones. The windmill will also be selling stoneground flour ground at the mill for the first time since the mill reopened 6 years ago.

Additional attractions include the opportunity to view a vintage Ruston & Hornsby diesel engine and the neighbouring wildflower meadow.

Visitors can also enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake whilst sitting in the maintained grounds of the mill. We have wheelchair accessible toilet facilities on site.

For those unable to visit the mill, there is a wonderful new video of the mill at work recorded by Broadland Memories with a very atmospheric and appropriate music soundtrack by the composer Jason Farnham on YouTube.
