Family Fun

Indoors or outdoors, there’s fun for children of all ages in and near Bury St Edmunds.

Well-equipped play areas can be found at the Abbey Gardens, Nowton Park and Ickworth Park and Gardens – alongside acres of parkland for playing, walking and cycling.

Themed events and activities add to the fun. At Nowton Park, rangers lead family bushcraft days and bug hunts.

Over at Ickworth House, craft activities and games can be enjoyed in the West Wing gallery, and children can learn to become nature detectives in the grounds.

West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village and Country Park gives children the chance to dress up as Anglo-Saxons and meet rare breed pigs and chickens.

At West Stow they can also master archery on Beginners’ Bow Shoot days, take part in the Lord of the Rings-inspired Ring Quest event to help save Middle Earth or celebrate myths and monsters during Dragon Fest.

In town, Moyse’s Hall Museum brings history to life. Looking for family entertainment? Check out the Abbeygate Cinema, Cineworld, the Theatre Royal or The Apex.

Once Upon a Festival held is the theatre's annual children's festival held every June with productions and performances especially for children which take place in Theatres, Schools and Communities.

The Whitsun Fayre, Christmas Fayre and Bury St Edmunds Science Fiction and Action Festival are always great fun for children too. And, if it’s raining, there’s roller-skating, bowling and laser tag to let them run off some steam
