About this event

Part of the Bury Concert Series. All concerts are held at the Unitarian Meeting House.

Described as having ‘fastidious musicianship’ (Musical Opinion Quarterly), the Albany Trio is a diverse and innovative ensemble whose repertoire focuses on works by female composers - both current and historic - alongside the traditional canon of piano trio music.

Founded in 2010, the Trio gave their BBC Radio 3 debut lunchtime concert live on International Women's Day, and most recently performed on ‘In Tune’ in March 2020. The ensemble were selected as Park Lane Group Young Artists and are also members of the Concordia Foundation. In 2014, the Trio were awarded the Richard Carne Junior Fellowship at the Royal College of Music where they curated the inaugural Women in Music festival, which was both sold out and featured in The Telegraph.

The trio received the Gwyneth George Award from the Piano Trio Society and were finalists in the St-Martin-in-the-Fields International Chamber Music competition. Versatile and wide-ranging in their work, the trio are experienced workshop leaders, as representatives of Live Music Now and Chamber Music 2000. The ensemble have received scholarships to attend the International Musicians Seminar at Prussia Cove, Pro Corda and the Dartington International Summer School, as well as studying new works during a winter residency at the Banff Centre in Canada.

Committed to bringing works by female composers to new audiences, the Albanys regularly collaborate with composers. They commissioned their fourth Trio, a new work entitled The Orchid and its Hunters by Judith Bingham, which was premiered live on BBC Radio 3. Their most recent premiere was Emma-Ruth Richard’s piano trio ‘the Art of Precious Scars’, which was performed at Stoller Hall. They have previously premiered works by Charlotte Bray, Judith Weir, and Josephine Stephenson, with more commissions planned for the future.

The Albany Piano Trio are delighted to welcome Judith Choi Castro as their new violinist, and would especially like to thank Francis and Caron Fernandes for their generous support.
