About this event
Postponed from 24 June 2021 (original date 16 October 2020)
"Soul, gospel, and R&B: Ruby Turner is truly the genuine article. Blessed with a voice that can breathe life and meaning into any song, whether it be a passionate ballad or a fast groove" - The Guardian.
Her major break came in the mid-1980s when she joined Culture Club at the height of their stardom, performing to vast sell-out audiences.
An offer of a solo record deal closely followed and four albums and a 'Best of' compilation album were all released to critical acclaim over the next few years, making Ruby a household name.
Hits have included 'I'd Rather Go Blind', 'If You're Ready (Come Go With Me)' and in the American R&B chart, the number one hit single 'It's Gonna Be Alright'.
Ruby is also one of the main singers in Jools Holland's R&B Orchestra and she has just released her 20th solo album, Love Was Here.
Tickets: £24, available from the website above.
About the Venue
The Apex is an award-winning venue, known for its acoustic excellence and home to a diverse programme of live music and events; from classical concerts to pop, rock, jazz, blues, world, country and folk, plus comedy and dance performances.
It also hosts a number of community and corporate events, offering the local community and wider environs a unique and exciting space from which visitors can see a great selection of artists, bands and events.
It has been very well publicised (and we never tire of hearing it!) that, as well as its architectural beauty, The Apex also has the very best acoustics, with many musicians who've played here describing it as the best acoustic in the UK, if not Europe:
"Best new venue in the UK. Absolutely superb" - Funeral For A Friend
"Best acoustic wee had in 40 years of touring" - Fairport Convention
"The best hall we have ever played in" - The Escher String Quartet
