Come and enjoy the energy and variety of Handel’s Messiah, performed by the Bury Bach Choir in St Edmundsbury Cathedral as part of Bury St Edmunds Festival 2020 and of the Abbey of St Edmund 1000 celebrations.

One of the best-known choral works in western music, Messiah was first performed in April 1742, with a scriptural text compiled by Charles Jennens from the King James Bible and the psalms included in the Book of Common Prayer.  Jennens’ text is an extended reflection on Jesus as the Messiah, providing a fitting contribution to the Abbey 1000 celebrations.

If you’ve not heard Messiah before, prepare to be enthralled by the most famous oratorio in the English language.  This is musical story-telling of the very highest quality, full of uplifting tunes, with a remarkable variety of pace guaranteed to keep the audience on the edge of their seats.  The work features the ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ and many other famous numbers.

With top flight soloists and the superb Norwich Baroque, this promises to be a performance to remember.  Don’t miss it!
