The Edmund Room, St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds

This special event is part of a year of activities in Bury St Edmunds celebrating 1000 years since the foundation of the Abbey of St Edmund in 1020.

Lectures in the morning will explore:

  • the importance of the Lark and Linnet in forming a suitable site for the abbey
  • the ecology of Bury’s rivers – both rare chalk streams
  • ambitious plans by Anglian Water for a long term scheme to improve flow and raise water levels in the Lark

There will be guided walks in the afternoon looking at the rivers’ historical landmarks and their flora and fauna.
