A 'Picnic and Opera' evening at beautiful Kentwell Hall.

Opera Brava's The Barber of Seville
Opera Brava are Britain's leading outdoor touring Opera Company.

The Barber of Seville, or The Useless Precaution, is an opera buffa in two acts by Gioachino Rossini with an Italian libretto by Cesare Sterbini. The libretto was based on Pierre Beaumarchais's French comedy Le Barbier de Séville (1775). The première of Rossini's opera (under the title Almaviva, o sia L'inutile precauzione) took place on 20 February 1816 at the Teatro Argentina, Rome.

Rossini's Barber has proven to be one of the greatest masterpieces of comedy within music, and has been described as the opera buffa of all "opere buffe". Even after two hundred years, it remains a popular work.

This year’s performances will be played in the open air at the front of the Hall. The audience will sit on the Front Lawns, bringing their own chairs, cushions, rugs etc, with the performers on a stage, and the House as a glorious background. The mellow red Tudor brickwork of the house, and the superb vista will make for one of the most amazing theatrical backcloths you will ever see!

Audience members are encouraged to bring a picnic to enjoy during the evening.

You may hire a Kentwell picnic table. NB. the hire of a Kentwell picnic table does not include the cost of your tickets for the performance.

For evening performances, gates will open at 6.30pm, so that guests may enjoy a visit to the gardens and a pre-show drink.

The first half of the performance is played under natural light. The second half is played under lights.

Our performances will go on whatever the weather - it is up to you to make sure you are correctly equipped to deal with excessive heat, seasonal dampness or whatever else nature gives us on the evening.

Please bring your own chairs, rugs and cushions etc.
If you book to hire a Kentwell picnic table, you must also book tickets for the performance. The Kentwell picnic table hire is for a picnic table, with integral seats, for your party to use for dining. It does not include the cost of tickets to view the performance.
If you book a Gazebo Pitch, you must also book tickets for the performance. A Gazebo Pitch booking is to reserve a pitch for a standard-sized garden gazebo, under which your party may sit, for the performance and/or to picnic. This does not include the cost of tickets to view the performance. The Gazebo Pitches will be at the back/sides of the lawns.

Tickets will be available available to purchase on our website nearer to the date of the performance.
