Abbeygate Street - Meet outside The Nutshell pub

Join us on the corner of the Nutshell/Abbeygate Street to explore Bury’s main street.

How far does your memory take you back? Our guides have put together a comprehensive record of past shops, characters who worked in them and will bring the tour to life with pictures that evoke nostalgia. Make sure you contribute your own recollections so that we can all turn back the clock.

• Where was St Phocas and why was he there?

• When were telephones first used in the businesses there – which was Bury St Edmunds 1?

• Why are the fronts of some shops set back from the building line of others?

• Where is the demon’s face?

You will spend many hours afterwards sharing the stories with your friends.

Suitable for all ages; children must be accompanied by an adult. Limited spaces are available, so book early, either online or at the Cathedral Tourist Information Point.

Tickets: £6, Under 17's free of charge. Booking essential on the website above.

The event is promoted by Bury St Edmunds Association of Registered Tour Guides (BARTG).
